Age Calculator Between Two Dates
Use this free age calculator between two dates to measure the exact time between any start and end date. You get the span in years, months, and days, plus total days and weeks. It uses real calendar math, so leap years and uneven months are handled correctly, and it works for dates in the past or the future. Everything runs instantly in your browser with no signup.
How to use
- Enter the start date.
- Enter the end date. It can be before or after the start date.
- Click Calculate Duration.
- Read the span in years, months, and days, plus total days and weeks.
How the date math works
The calculator subtracts the two dates component by component. It first finds the year difference, then checks whether the end month and day have passed the start month and day. When the day has not been reached yet, it borrows days from the previous month, and when the month has not been reached, it borrows 12 months from the years.
Worked example: from January 15, 2000 to October 14, 2026. Years: 2026 - 2000 = 26. Months: 10 - 1 = 9, but the 15th has not arrived yet in October, so borrow one month: 8 months, and add September's 30 days to the day count: 14 - 15 + 30 = 29 days. Result: 26 years, 8 months, 29 days, or 9,769 days in total.
Practical uses
HR teams use date spans to verify employment tenure down to the month. Project managers measure phase durations between kickoff and delivery dates. Parents track a baby's age in months for pediatric milestones. Historians and genealogists measure the exact span between life events.
Because the tool accepts any two dates, it also works as a countdown: enter today as the start and a future date as the end to see exactly how long remains.
Frequently asked questions
Does the order of the dates matter?
No. If you enter the later date first, the calculator swaps them automatically and still gives the correct duration.
How are months handled, since months have different lengths?
The calculator uses calendar math. It borrows days from the previous month when needed, so the result matches how we normally count age in years, months and days.
Does it account for leap years?
Yes. Because the calculation works with real calendar dates, leap days such as February 29 are included automatically in the total day count.
What if both dates are the same?
You will get 0 years, 0 months and 0 days, with a total of 0 days. That is the correct duration.
Can I use future dates?
Yes. Enter any end date in the future to see how much time remains until that date, in years, months, and days. This is handy for counting down to milestones, project deadlines, or retirements.
Why does another calculator show a slightly different month count?
Some calculators use different borrowing conventions, for example treating every month as 30 days. This tool uses real calendar months, which matches how birthdays and anniversaries are normally counted, so small differences of a day or two against simpler tools are normal.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. The dates you enter never leave your device.
