This free 512x512 converter turns any JPG, PNG, or WebP image into an exact 512x512 PNG in one click. It scales your image to fill the square and centers it, so proportions stay natural instead of stretched. Everything runs in your browser with no signup and no watermark, and your files never leave your device.

Where 512x512 images are used

Mobile app icons are the classic case: both major app stores want high resolution icon sources, and 512x512 is the common working size. Discord uses 512x512 for server icons, and many games use it for sprites, textures, and UI elements.

On the web, progressive web apps declare an icon-512.png in their manifest for install prompts and splash screens, usually paired with a 192x192 version. Social platforms and forums also accept 512x512 avatars, since it stays sharp on high density displays.

Fill vs fit vs stretch: which does this tool use?

This tool uses fill: your image is scaled until it completely covers the 512x512 square, then centered, with the overflow cropped evenly. Icons and avatars need edge to edge coverage, so fill is the correct mode.

Fit would shrink your image to show all of it, leaving empty padding bands on two sides, which looks wrong as an icon. Stretch would force non square images into the square and visibly distort faces and logos. If you ever need the whole image visible with padding, use a custom pixel resizer with the aspect lock on instead.

Frequently asked questions

Why 512x512?

Many platforms standardize on it: mobile app icons, Discord server icons and avatars, game sprites and textures, social avatars, and the icon-512.png file that progressive web apps list in their manifest. This tool gives you that exact size without guessing.

Will the image be distorted?

No. The image fills the square using its original proportions and is centered, so the edges of the longer side may be cropped but nothing is stretched.

What is the difference between fill, fit, and stretch?

Fill scales the image to cover the whole square and crops the overflow, which is what this tool does and what icons need. Fit shows the entire image with padding around it, leaving empty bands. Stretch forces the image into the square and distorts it. For icons and avatars, fill is almost always the right choice.

Can I upload a JPG or WebP?

Yes. JPG, PNG, and WebP uploads all work. The download is always a high quality PNG, which is the format app stores and icon systems expect.

What if my image is smaller than 512x512?

It will be scaled up to 512x512. Upscaling cannot add detail, so a small original may look a little soft. Start with the largest source image you have for the sharpest icon.

Can I use this for a PWA manifest icon?

Yes. Save the download as icon-512.png and reference it in your web app manifest alongside a 192x192 version. Both sizes are the standard pair browsers look for when installing a progressive web app.

Are my images private?

Yes. Conversion happens entirely in your browser and your images are never uploaded anywhere.
